H.M. Qaboos bin Said al Said, A41AA, died on 10 January aged 79. The Arab world's longest-serving ruler, he was the Sultan of Oman for nearly fifty years. The Royal Omani Amateur Radio Society (ROARS) was formed on 23 December 1972 under his patronage.
Igor Lvovich Zeldin, UR5LCV (ex UB5LCV) passed away on 11 January at 66 years of age. An active DXer licensed since 1973 and former President of the Ukrainian Amateur Radio League, he authored several books on technical topics and was the IOTA Checkpoint for Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova.
Peter Glasmacher, DK5DC died unexpectedly on 12 January, aged 68. A well-known DXer and a DXCC Card Checker, he was the editor of the monthly DX column in "CQ DL", the official journal of the Deutscher Amateur Radio Club.
He also served as President of DARC's District O (Westfalen-Sued) for the past six years.
