C5YX The Gambia
March 16-25, 2025
C5 is not rare, but Ham Radio activity from C5 was dormant for some time until the C5T/C5I guys hit the airwaves. It's good to see the interest in operating from The Gambia is back: in 2025 several individuals and groups are or will be active from "the smiling coast of Africa".
In February a group of POTA-enthousiast were active as C5PL, then Alan G4DJX was briefly QRV as C5DX, followed by C5PWL also in February. Lui YT3PL (as C5LT) and Luc F5RAV (C5R) will be active in april.
C5PL did activate some parks (POTA). C5DX and C5PWL were mainly active in CW and C5LT/C5R will execute a more serious "all mode, all band" DXpedition. This much activity made me decide not to bring antennas for all bands and focus on SSB (but I'll do FT8 and some CW too).
My QTH is Bijilo, locator: IK13pk.
LoTW certificate for C5YX received
Yes of course I do use LoTW: free for everyone of and upload as soon as possible during my stay in The Gambia, like it should be. Also expect a daily upload of the log on ClubLog. A paper QSL will be available for those who need or collect via my homecall PA2LO (bureau or direct).
A special thanks to those who provided help in securing the C5-license and helpful info about operating in The Gambia. They know who they are.
