THE TRANSATLANTIC CENTENARY TESTS

The Radio Society of Great Britain will be hosting an international amateur radio activation on the HF bands to celebrate the centenary of the achievement of amateur transatlantic communication during the Transatlantic Tests that were held between 1921 and 1923.
In anticipation of this centenary celebration, the RSGB have renewed five callsigns which they held in the 1920s.
* G5WS: used by the RSGB from Wandsworth, South London, 5WS was the callsign of the first European amateur radio station to be heard across the Atlantic during the third Transatlantic Tests (24 December 1922).
* G5AT: 5AT was the RSGB HQ callsign, activated in the fourth Transatlantic Tests of December 1923 and successfully heard in North America.
* G6XX: activated in the fourth Transatlantic Tests, 6XX was given a special permit to use an input power of 1kW.
* G6ZZ: used on 5 July 1924, 6ZZ was the callsign of the "Scotch Express" on its journey from London to Newcastle; it was the first experiment in operating an amateur radio station from a moving railway train.
* G3DR: historic callsign, previously held by the RSGB as GM3DR for use in the Scottish Highlands.
Look for G5WS, G5AT, G6XX, G6ZZ and G3DR (England), GD5WS (Isle of Man), GI5WS (Northern Ireland), GJ5WS (Jersey), GM5WS (Scotland), GU5WS (Guernsey) and GW5WS (Wales) to be activated on 1-31 December. QSLs via M0OXO's OQRS and LoTW. A series of awards will be available; full details will be pub-
lished on https://rsgb.org/main/activity/transatlantic-tests/tct/.
